Counseling at Excelon Health |
|
Whole body wellness not only includes one's physical health but emotional and social health as well. Through the interpersonal helping relationship that forms between a counselor and client, counseling can work to achieve a more positive state of emotional health and an increase in life fulfillment for the client. At Excelon Health the client's needs and goals are paramount in the therapeutic relationship. Clients may come to counseling with any number of concerns or distresses in his or her life, and each comes with their own perspectives. The therapist and client work collaboratively in dealing with these concerns with the goal of enhancing the client's life. Together they will explore thoughts, feelings and actions in order to set goals, solve problems, process significant events, and move forward in the most positive way possible for the client. Dianne works from a strengths-based, solution focused approach. In the therapeutic relationship this translates to the identification of the client's strengths that can best be utilized to help the client solve problems, increase self-reliance and motivation, and reach goals. The overarching goal of therapy is to find solutions that will benefit the client's life. In order to help the client accomplish this, Dianne uses traditional talk therapy, visualization, and cognitive-behavioral techniques with both adults and adolescents. With children Dianne also incorporates art and play therapy into the counseling sessions. While counseling can be a very positive experience for many, it does require hard work and some discomfort from time to time. Raising unpleasant events and relationship patterns can arouse intense feelings as can the path to resolve those problems. The benefits of therapy only come when the client is dedicated to the process and is willing to put in the work needed. Benefits, though, can include better coping skills, a better understanding of family and personal goals, greater fulfillment in a client's life, behavior changes, and the resolution of any specific concerns brought to the counseling relationship. A good candidate for counseling at Excelon Health includes any adult, adolescent or child that is seeking to find answers, examine problems or increase one's happiness in his or her life. Counseling can address relationship concerns including those between partners, family members, friends, or peers. Mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, anger, bipolar, and addiction can be brought to the counseling relationship. Therapy can also be a good option for those dealing with problems in social, occupational or school functioning. These can be drug or alcohol abuse, grief, difficulties in working with or relating to peers and co-workers, academic concerns, and sexual identity to name a few. Dianne believes that the opportunity for growth lies within everyone and that counselors can have a unique role in the development of that growth. Each client is a unique individual with particular characteristics and ways of dealing with the world. Therapy can help a client use those strengths and skills to make positive changes or increase happiness in one's life. If you believe that therapy might be needed in your life or the life of your child, please feel free to contact Dianne at dianne@excelonhealth.com. She would be happy to answer any questions you have or set up an appointment to meet with you. |
